Towards 1987 Joan Bennassar made a series of works based on the bodies of young people swimming in the sea. To create these dream images, he was inspired by the summer nights when the painter was going to swim to Cala San Vicenç, in his native Mallorca, with his family and friends. They are paintings with a certain classicism, because of recovering the classic myths due to the influence of the work of Robert Graves, who also lived in Majorca for most of his life. The bodies, mostly masculine, pretend to represent the intellectual and spiritual nakedness of the human being and of himself. The work presents some marks caused by the use and by the passage of time. You can ask us your status.
